Girl Scout cookie time rolled around. I encountered Girl Scouts once and walked away. It was hard even though I heard the siren song of the Tagalongs singing. For those not familiar with Tagalongs, they have a layer of creamy peanut butter on top of a crunchy vanilla cookie. Chocolate covers the entire cookie.

Biting into the Supreme Protein Peanut Butter Crunch bar reminded me a little of the Tagalong. It could never be a substitute mainly because of the infamous protein bitter taste. You’d think I’d be used to it by now with all the protein products I eat.

The bar also jogs your tastebuds’ memories of Buttercrunch and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. The little crispy topping that appears on the surface right beneath the chocolate combined with the creamy peanut butter is the Butterfinger memory. Although the bar has a layer of smooth peanut butter — my favorite part — it reminds you of peanut butter cups when you add the thick chocolate and crunch.

The thick chocolate coating will satisfy the chocolate craving. The bar comes in two sizes: 86g at 400 calories and 43g at 190.

Supreme Protein Peanut Butter Pretzel Twist

Supreme Protein Peanut Butter Pretzel Twist: Part of the bar has the bitter taste that comes with protein-laden food. But the generously thick peanut butter coating, the pretzel and peanut crunch on top and the silky soft caramel turn this bar into an amazing treat that makes you forget all about the bitter taste.

It surprised me how much peanut butter coating and flavor it had. The caramel doesn’t stick to your teeth and it doesn’t hurt your jaw like the tougher bars can.

Supreme Protein Cookies ‘n Cream

This one has the least amount of bitter taste probably because the chocolate just knocks it out with a punch. A small layer of white filling is soft just like the creamy center of an Oreo cookie.

It takes work to get there with the center surrounded by a medium-sized layer of chocolate with crunch cookies pieces hidden inside and a rich chocolate bottom layer. Despite not having a lot of cream, it’s a tasty chocolate bar and one of the lower calorie bars in the Supreme Protein line.

Supreme Protein Peanut Butter and Jelly

If you could turn PBJ into a protein bar, this is exactly what you would get. Smooth, creamy peanut butter coating with crunch on the sides. Although I can’t figure out the flavor the fruity jelly, it works. It could be grape. It could be strawberry. From the ingredients, it’s strawberry.

The thickness of the jelly resembles the little packet of jelly you get in a restaurant, maybe even a little more liquidy. This balances the texture between the creamy peanut butter, crunchy whey crisps and the basic protein bar beneath the jelly topping. I detect a slight bitter aftertaste, but all the ingredients make up for it.
