Quest BarsWhoa! A lot has happened since I wrote the Quest Bar review in 2011. Initially, I came across the product when I received two free samples. At the time, I believe, they were the only flavors available. Since then, they’ve added 11 more flavors and changed the two I reviewed.

Quest Bar stands out from competitors based on its claims to include more fiber, more protein, no sugar alcohols (original line), no soy protein, no artificial sweetners (natural line) and gluten free. I remain impressed with the nutritional numbers for protein, trans fat, sugar and fiber. It’s a low carb eater and high protein eater’s ideal bar.

Now some Quest Bars have fewer than 200 calories. That’s the most exciting news. I mentioned before that I avoid bars with more than 200 calories. Although I exercise and lift weights regularly, I don’t burn crazy calories like the body builders and hard core athletes.

The bars don’t have icing or anything. They look like dense nougat in bar form and have the chewiness of a Tootsie roll. No dryness or crunch. If that’s not your style, you can change that by putting it in the microwave. Remove the metallic wrapper and put the bar on a microwave safe plate. Microwave the bar for 12-15 seconds (depending on your microwave — start small) to turn it into a soft-baked cookie-like bar. You can also break the bar into small pieces and nuke it for about 35 seconds to get soft, crunch bits. So you have three ways to eat the bar: out of the wrapper, softened or crunchy bites.

Apple Pie Quest Bar has dried apple pieces throughout the bar. A nice bonus. Although apple and cinnamon flavors are present, this wasn’t a favorite. Nutrition: 170 calories, 0g sat fat, 350mg sodium, 24g carbs, 18g fiber, 3g sugars, 20g protein, 6g net carbs.

Banana Nut Muffin Quest Bar blew me away. I’m not a big fan of banana nut cake and muffin.  But I don’t dislike them either. They’re just never my first choice. Well, this one is one of the better tasting Quest bars. Tastes just like nutty banana without the sweetness. Nutrition: 170 calories, 0g sat fat, 290mg sodium, 25g carbs, 16g fiber, 2g sugars, 4g erythritol, 20g protein, 5g net carbs.

Chocolate Brownie Quest Bar reminds you of something sinful you’ve enjoyed in the past. I know it does for me and I can’t put my finger on it. Maybe fudge. (After nuking it.) Pure chocolate flavor. Nutrition: 170 calories, 1g sat fat, 340mg sodium, 24g carbs, 19g fiber, 1g sugars, 20g protein, 5g net carbs.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Quest Bar is oh so yummy! Because of the bar’s texture after microwaving for a few seconds, it’s almost exactly like eating cookie dough. Nuke them a little longer and you have little crunchy chocolate chip cookies. Nutrition: 190 calories, 3g sat fat, 310mg sodium, 21g carbs, 17g fiber, 1g sugars, 1g erythritol, 21g protein, 3g net carbs.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Quest Bar lives up to expectations: Chocolaty and nutty. It even has a few nuts in it. One of my faves especially with its 160 calories. Nutrition: 160 calories, 1g sat fat, 270mg sodium, 25g carbs, 17g fiber, 1g sugars, 5g sugar alcohols, 20g protein, 2g net carbs.

Cinnamon Roll Quest Bar doesn’t quite live up to expectations in tasting like a cinnamon roll, but it’s likeable enough with its cinnamon-ish flavor mixed with icing. Nutrition: 170 calories, 0g sat fat, 300mg sodium, 24g carbs, 17g fiber, 1g sugars, 6g sugar alcohols, 20g protein, 2g net carbs.

Coconut Cashew Quest Bar takes you on a tropical ride. Coconut fans will be pleased. Cashew fans will be disappointed. Can’t find the the nuts famed sweet ‘n’ buttery flavor. Nutrition: 170 calories, 1.5g sat fat, 270mg sodium, 24g carbs, 17g fiber, 2g sugars, 6g sugar alcohols, 20g protein, 2g net carbs.

Double Chocolate Chunk Quest Bar has melty chocolate chips that make this one stand out. Chocolaty without overdoing it and the melty chips enhance the experience. Another fave especially with its 160 calories. This and the Peanut Butter will be my regular go to lunch bars. Nutrition: 160 calories, 2.5g sat fat, 250mg sodium, 25g carbs, 16g fiber, 1g sugars, 6g erythritol, 20g protein, 3g net carbs.

Lemon Cream Pie Quest Bar is the only one I couldn’t finish. Lemon is slightly present, but the whole concoction tastes weird. Even the lemon lover in the family wasn’t impressed. Nutrition: 170 calories, 0g sat fat, 260mg sodium, 25g carbs, 17g fiber, 1g sugars, 6g sugar alcohols, 20g protein, 2g net carbs.

Mixed Berry Bliss Quest Bar turns out to be quite a nice surprise! Berry-flavored items also fall under hit or miss for me. This was a hit! A nice berry nutty flavor without sourness. No specific berry stood out — the bar tastes berry-like. If only it weren’t 200 calories. Nutrition: 200 calories, 0.5g sat fat, 340mg sodium, 22gcarbs, 18g fiber, 2g sugars, 20g protein, 4g net carbs.

Peanut Butter Supreme Quest Bar is all out nutty as it has bits of nuts throughout the bar. This is one of the two flavors I tried and it has improved a lot. Calories are lower (still a little high for me) and its peanutty flavor stands out more as the protein bar famed bitterness is gone. It’s not sweet, so it doesn’t compare to the criss-cross style peanut butter cookies even when you microwave the bites to make them crunchy. Nutrition: 210 calories, 1.5g sat fat, 340mg sodium, 21g carbs, 17g fiber, 2g sugars, 20g protein, 3g net carbs.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Quest Bar doesn’t begin to taste like PBJ. My spouse says it does. But I couldn’t find the peanut butter. I couldn’t find the jelly. Maybe it was faint. That’s OK. The calories are higher than I’d like, so no biggie. Nutrition: 210 calories, 1.5g sat fat, 340mg sodium, 21g carbs, 17g fiber, 2g sugars, 20g protein, 4g net carbs.

Strawberry Cheesecake Quest Bar resembles strawberry jam more than cheesecake. The strawberry flavor is there, but not the cheesecake. It looks like the ones I’m most excited about disappoint and the ones I’m not excited about surprise. Really wanted to love this one since it has only 160 calories, 0 sat fat and less sodium than the other bars. Nutrition: 160 calories, 0g sat fat, 105mg sodium, 25g carbs, 17g fiber, 2g sugars, 6g sugar alcohol, 20g protein, 2g net carbs.

Vanilla Almond Crunch Quest Bar mixes the sweetness of vanilla with the nuttiness of almonds that it almost tastes like hazelnut flavoring. The texture is the same as peanut butter only a little sweeter. When I first tried the bars, I didn’t think I liked them and thought they had an aftertaste. But the more I tried it, the better they tasted. However, these aren’t the best tasting bars. They’re good — not delicious or superb. Nutrition: 200 calories, 0.5g sat fat, 360mg sodium, 22g carbs, 18g fiber, 1g sugars, 20g protein, 4g net carbs.
